As of June 1st, 2025, we have changed to a cash-pay membership-based medical practice
But why? As a physiatrist, I am a specialty physician that treats all organ systems and all body areas. My focus is on your functioning and well-being in your day to day life. Many of my patient population rarely sees other providers other than their PCP once or twice per year. Given the unsustainably low reimbursement that health insurance has provided, with failure to respond to contract negotiations, I was faced with two options: 1. Start seeing patients every 15-20 minutes without enough time for follow up - and still barely break even between reimbursement and basic expenses. 2. Change to a direct patient-provider membership based medical practice, removing health insurance from the equation.* I spent days coming up with a solution that included insurance. Nothing allowed for me to deliver meaningful healthcare as a Physiatrist. It was only when health insurance was taken out of the equation that numbers started to balance like a normal business should. For a large portion of patients, the membership-based model surprisingly saves money if it means that you're able to change to a lower premium insurance plan. In fact, I am able to offer memberships at 1/4th the cost of my own insurance premium, with massive discounts (essentially equating to small copays per visit/per procedure). There is no such thing as a deductible here. There is no such thing as needing prior authorization for a procedure. You can use your health savings account to pay most or potentially all of your costs. This benefits both the doctor and the patient. The membership model opens up a plethora of other benefits as shown below: * Note that this does not include worker's compensation, who reimburses fairly in Wisconsin. We still accept patients with work related injuries under a workers compensation plan.
We do not accept health insurance and we do not bill health insurance. Here is what you get in return:
Attentive Doctor
You will have a doctor that takes high interest in your symptoms, fascinated with the uniqueness of each individual
Can See You Quickly
Rather than wait weeks to months to get in to see the doctor, you can get in to see the doctor as early as the same or next day
Shorter Wait Times
Without being forced into seeing more patients than possible per day, your wait time is drastically reduced to a few minutes or less
Save Money
Depending on your current healthcare expenses, our membership model could potentially save thousands of dollars per year
Direct Communication
Not having to worry about doing too many tasks that insurance won't cover, there is no sweat for the doctor messaging you directly
Uncovered Procedures
There is no need to request authorization from a third party to do procedures that the doctor recommends and the patient consents to
Comprehensive Care
Insurance limits each visit to one or two complaints per visit. We can treat multiple complaints. Physiatry treats all organs and body areas
Fast Refills
Refills are another task that doctors do not get paid for. A membership-based model includes time dedicated to refills
Genetic Testing
Genetic testing has been an invaluable tool in diagnosing the underlying cause of symptoms. Ordering the right test panel takes time

About
Dr Eric Spears, DO
As a dedicated medical professional, my experience over the past year has revealed that many patients suffer from undiagnosed or misdiagnosed conditions contributing to their pain. This realization has ignited my passion for rare diseases. Utilizing modern technology and genetics, I have successfully diagnosed 60 rare diseases within this timeframe. Identifying the root cause of these conditions has proven essential in guiding effective treatment strategies, ultimately leading to significant pain reduction for my patients.

10%
of U.S. Adults
live with a rare disease...
4%
have discovered the secret:
Healthcare costs not covered by insurance - such as a doctor spending 1 hour with you then researching your symptoms and results for another 2 hours. No insurance covers this.

This makes Spears Pain & Rehab the best place to go for a rare disease workup.
If you're part of the 10% of Americans that has a rare disease, your savings go beyond costs. It could be the diagnosis that saves your life.
